My fellow Murkans,

After a quick trek back up the East Coast to Portaland, we've stepped through the eponymous portal and found ourselves on the West Coast of Murka. It's time for the Murkan equivalent of the Oregon Trail, but hopefully with less dysentary.

We have now unlocked:
  • 130k:  Spot Gloss on all hardcover books 

Thanks for sticking with us for this wild Murkan road trip. HERE WE GO!

Spot Gloss UV

Really happy about unlocking this because it's SUCH a nice touch. All standard-edition hardcover books will now get spot gloss UV. That means even if you didn't back at the fancy Deluxe tiers (why didn't you? Do you hate me? It's okay, I get it), your books will still be extremely high-quality, unbelievably beautiful, and fun to touch with your grubby little shiny-loving goblin grabbers.

Spot UV is essentially when a section of the book is raised and glossy, giving it a 3D sort of effect.



Next Stretch Goal: Restaurants & Retail One Shot

Y'all seemed very excited about our Hometown Heroes one shot, and we realize what Murka really needs is some more adventures to showcase some of the really awesome new mechanics we're making. While I can't cover the full details of this one shot until we unlock it, I can confirm that it will showcase one of our new alternative combat mechanics that we're currently polishing, and I think you're gonna LOVE it.

We just hit 130k! I'll have more details later today for you, but I can confirm that this means we've unlocked a new stretch goal, even though we haven't posted the West Coast Goals yet, lmao. You guys are so FAST and I LOVE IT.

All the hardcover books are getting upgraded at this tier with some really fancy shmancy beautiful spot gloss UV effects. Example below.

110k STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED: VTT Support and Minis

I know we already confirmed VTT support but I accidentally sent out the last update with the wrong header and I wanna make sure everyone sees that WE'RE MAKING IT HAPPEN


My fellow Murkans,

We are rapidly approaching the end of the line in terms of stretch goals.

PSYCH, we've got a WHOLE OTHER LIST of stretch goals coming up real quick! Ones that include some more fun content that I cannot share yet but I think y'all are gonna be happy about it. 

We have now unlocked:
  • 100k:  Foundry VTT Conversion 
  • 110k: Minis Series 4

Please hold while we work on the new stretch goal graphic. We had some stretch goals planned for this level, but we honestly thought we would have more time before we needed to prepare the graphics, lol. For those who may not know, we are a super small team, and none of us are doing Action Fiction full time, so the success of this campaign has really blown us away and we're doing everything we can to keep up with y'all!

Minis Series 4

This should be our final series of minis. I'm getting closer to ironing out a few of the specifics in each series and putting them on the campaign page as add-ons; it'll be a hot minute before we're able to show off all the specifics in terms of visuals, our 3D artist was 100% not prepared to get this many mini opportunities lmao. He's REALLY stoked, there's fire in his chest and his hands are flying at mach-fuck to make these things, we just gotta take time to crank them out.

Minis will probably not ALL be prepared by the end of this campaign. We're gonna blitz them as fast as possible, but we also want to keep a really high quality for them, so we'll just need a bit of patience.

Foundry VTT Conversion 

Some of what follows will be repeated from last update, BUT FIRST I want to share the things that are new. 
  • The VTT Kit will be available as an add-on.
  • If you backed at the ALL-IN pledge tier or higher, you will automatically get the VTT kit.
    • I owe you guys an updated list of everything the ALL-IN tier gets, but suffice to say, it's "all-in" for a reason. You'll get Mini STLs, the VTT, the digital soundtrack - all sorts of tasty stretch goal content. And, as William Maize would say, it will be ABSOLUTELY FREE.

It feels like I barely even had time to announce that this had been revealed before we've already unlocked it. I suppose that goes for all of our stretch goals, but this one was a big one for me. I've wanted to see a VTT implementation for Murka for a LONG time, and I'm so damn excited that we're finally gonna make it happen. I've reached out to a VTT creator to see what it's gonna take to get it made, but the jury is still out on whether we'll be working with a VTT creator, or if we'll be making it ourselves (see: I will be making it myself, lol).

Next Stretch Goal: Dice Trays

Next on our list is making some fantastical, Murka-themed dice trays! We've worked with a dice tray maker in the past, so we're already reaching out to see if he's available. If he is, hell yeah! If not, we'll be on the lookout for someone who can make something TRULY Murkan. My current idea is to get a dice tray with those guy fieri style flames up the sides, lmao. But we'll see what we put together.

100k STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED: VTT Support!

My fellow Murkans,

I cannot believe we hit 100k just three days in. To be completely transparent, this is now officially the largest campaign we have ever done in terms of money raised. And it's only day three. I cannot thank you all enough. 

We have now unlocked:
  • 95k: Minis Series 3
  • 100k: Foundry VTT Conversion

Before I jump in, I just wanted to shout out our awesome Discord community who have been so supportive. It feels like every few minutes I take a scroll through those chats and see really kind words. So, Dewey, PrinceofBelAir, Stryker, Lythar, Kimber, Dave, Beelze, Zelan, and the entire Pretzel Cult - thank you all. You all rock. Your support is appreciated by everyone at Action Fiction, and on a personal note, you fill my life with a lot of joy.



For those not in the Discord, there's no better place to chat with other folks who have the same sense of humor, who love to homebrew their own Murka items, and who support the hell out of one another. 10/10 community, even if I'm a little biased.

Minis Series 3

When I told Hermz we would be doing 3 series of minis (my current goal is like 10-15 minis total at this point), he had the following to say:

And I gotta say, I agree with him entirely. lmao. I'm working up a list of all the creatures and critters who might become a mini so that you all can vote. There are a few that I 100% know will become a mini and so they won't be included in the poll (like the Walrog), so if you don't see those monsters in the poll, don't worry! They'll still be in the list of minis. The poll will be exclusively for y'all to pick and choose your faaaavorites.

Also, just to clarify: we have more stretch goals cooking. We, uhh... we thought we had more time, haha. So, once we blow through these next two, our Murkan road trip will not be over. We'll be making a detour so we can continue our journey together!

Printed One-shot, Monsters of Murka: Hometown Heroes

I know I kind of talked about it a lot in the last update, but I want to restate some of that, because there are 500 of you and I know not everyone has time to read every single update even though I pour my BLOOD and SWEAT and TEARS and HEART and SOUL into every single WORD I WRITE. Haha, I'm just kidding.

For me, the most interesting part of this adventure’s design is how customizable it is. With VERY little set-up, you’ll be able to tailor a villain SPECIFICALLY designed to antagonize your party, which will make it all the more satisfying when they beat the living shit out of them. Also, your players (temporarily) get their hands on a Legendary magic item, so even though they’ll only be 3rd level, they’ll get a taste of power and immediately thirst for more. You know, like little politicians.

Anyway, here’s the synopsis of the adventure:
A group of adventurers are enjoying the amenities of their hometown when their ONE day off is quite rudely interrupted by a villain who has set their sights on taking over the town. The group will need to work together to uncover the villain’s plans, make a quick pit stop at their local library for a powerful arcane tome, and then put a stop to the machiavellian machinations and become the heroes their hometown needs—and hopefully the ones it deserves.

Hometown Heroes serves as a perfect introductory adventure for low-level players to get a sense for what Murka is, and provides tools for a GM to handcraft a villain for the party, as well as bring their real-world hometown—including some of its most notable characters, locales, and features—into the world of Murka.

The adventure will be available to everyone digitally for free, and we’re still figuring out what print costs will be for something like this. If we can keep costs low, we’d love to include it for our physical backers, but we need to make sure it’s a cost we can sustain first (being a tiny team in Columbus where all of us are also working full-time jobs to pay bills is hard) We’ll keep you posted on what we come up with!

More Art (The Final Reckoning)

This is the last stretch goal tier we had planned for adding art to the books, which means we have reached maximum artitude. It’s all ov-art now. Art’s well that ends well. Art thou glad I didn’t say banana? I forgot what I was saying.

Next Stretch Goal: Minis Series 3

At the next stretch goal, we’ll be adding yet another mini series to the campaign. I got some great recommendations on the last update, someone suggested we do some PC/subclass minis, and I think that’s FABULOUS. Here’s a short list of some of the options we’re considering between Series 1 and 2, to get your ideas flowing:
